Importing includes choosing the source and target language pairs and whether the content will be available in a public index or in a private index. Source documents are then automatically converted into XLIFF format and saved as separate paragraphs in a web platform of robust open source technologies.
Finally, a secure, controlled translation process
Lingotek stores source and target documents as unlinked paragraphs to strengthen security; documents are not searchable or viewable in Lingotek. Document owners, and those they grant access rights to, are the only ones capable of re-linking paragraphs into documents. Furthermore, if a document owner saves the paragraphs to a closed TM, the source and target document paragraphs are searchable and viewable only to the document owner and those he or she has granted access right to. This capability keeps you in control and secure while increasing flexibility.
Reuse through instant, meaning-based searching
Lingotek does not use statistical algorithms for exact or fuzzy matches on sentences like translation memory programs. Lingotek uses linguistic algorithms based upon paragraphs to find in-context or meaning-based translations that can be reused for new translation projects. By default, Lingotek instantaneously searches at the paragraph level and prioritizes the hits. Selective searching enables users to highlight parts of a paragraph to find more specific combinations of words for reuse. Faster, meaning-based searching also maintains better style, tone and terminology. This capability saves time, money and establishes higher quality.
Global dynamic source of multi-lingual content
Lingotek embraces the power of the web to harness collective translation intelligence. This extends the traditional concept of content reuse from what has been generated in your company to what has been generated in a global social network and submitted to the public index. This "architecture of participation" means the service gets better as more people use it. A good way to start is to import existing "translation memories" and multi-lingual documents. Translation memories can be imported directly. Multi-lingual documents can be quickly aligned, at a paragraph level, and imported into Lingotek using LingoAlign. Each target paragraph is committed to index within minutes after completing the translation. When using the Open TM Vault, if someone on the other side of the world is translating a similar document between the same language pair, you will be able to search against that content and find relevant results within minutes after a paragraph is translated. If you are using a Closed TM Vault, the same would apply if multiple Lingotek subscribers were given rights to the same project by the content owner.
